December 26, Former Prime Minister and veteran Congress leader Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away in Delhi on Thursday evening at the age of 92 after a prolonged illness. A distinguished economist and statesman, Dr. Singh was admitted to AIIMS Delhi after his health deteriorated.
According to AIIMS, Dr. Singh was brought to the emergency department at 8:06 PM on Thursday. Despite all medical efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM.
In an official statement, AIIMS expressed its profound grief: "With deep sorrow, we announce the demise of Former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92." The statement also noted that Dr. Singh had been receiving treatment for age-related ailments and experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at home on December 26, 2024.
Efforts to stabilize his condition began at home before he was transported to the hospital. His office revealed that the former Prime Minister had been experiencing "extreme breathlessness" in the hours leading up to his passing.
Dr. Manmohan Singh leaves behind a legacy as a reformist leader and a key architect of India's economic liberalization.
