PM Modi’s Visit to Kuwait Aims to Strengthen Defence and Trade Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a significant visit to Kuwait today, marking a step forward in reinforcing India’s strategic partnership with the Gulf nation. This visit underscores India’s intent to deepen cooperation in critical areas such as defence and trade, which are pivotal to both nations’ economic and security frameworks.

During his visit, PM Modi is expected to hold high-level discussions with Kuwaiti leadership, focusing on expanding bilateral trade, enhancing investments, and boosting defence collaboration. The talks will also explore ways to strengthen energy security and deepen people-to-people ties, given the large Indian diaspora in Kuwait.

Kuwait is a key trading partner for India in the Gulf region, with trade volumes exceeding billions annually. The visit is expected to pave the way for new agreements that will further fortify economic engagement and open new avenues for investment.

On the defence front, discussions will likely address joint exercises, intelligence sharing, and strengthening maritime security in the Gulf region, which is vital for global energy transportation and regional stability.

The visit is seen as a part of India’s larger outreach to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, aiming to build a robust partnership in the rapidly evolving global geopolitical landscape.

Experts believe this visit will not only bolster bilateral ties but also contribute significantly to regional peace and development.

As the first programme of his visit to Kuwait, Modi visited a labour camp in Mina Abdullah area of Kuwait with a workforce of around 1,500 Indian nationals.

He interacted with a cross-section of Indian workers from different states of India, enquired about their well-being, also sat at a table with some of them at the Gulf Spic Labour Camp when snacks served.
