Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced on Thursday that the 11th International Day of Yoga will be celebrated in Visakhapatnam on June 21, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance.
Speaking at a press conference, Naidu said the event would be a landmark occasion for Andhra Pradesh, with the state aiming to enter the Guinness World Records. The goal is to set two Guinness World Records and a total of 22 global records as part of the Yoga Day celebrations.
“The event will be held in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and designed to attract global attention and bring international recognition to Andhra Pradesh,” the Chief Minister stated.
Outlining the programme details, Naidu said that around 25,000 tribal students will participate in a mass Surya Namaskar performance, practicing continuously for 108 minutes. The aim is to set a world record for the largest group performing Surya Namaskars simultaneously. Extensive preparations are underway along the 26-kilometre stretch from RK Beach to Bhogapuram in Visakhapatnam.
Naidu also revealed the theme for this year’s celebration: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” He added that the state plans to integrate yoga into the school curriculum starting from Class 9, with weekly sessions held once or twice. Additionally, the government is exploring the establishment of a deemed university dedicated exclusively to yoga.
