Foreign Minister S Jaishankar Meets Russian President Vladimir Putin In Moscow

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday, shortly after holding extensive discussions with his counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. The talks centered on strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting comes at a time when global pressures are mounting, particularly with the U.S. urging India to curb its purchase of Russian oil, citing its role in the Ukraine conflict.

At a joint media briefing with Mr. Lavrov, Mr. Jaishankar highlighted the resilience of India-Russia relations, stating:

"We believe that relations between India and Russia have been among the steadiest of the major relationships in the world after the Second World War. Geo-political convergence, leadership contacts and popular sentiment remain its key drivers."

Mr. Jaishankar is currently on a three-day visit to Russia, during which he co-chaired the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) and also addressed the India-Russia Business Forum in Moscow.
