The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday declared Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee for the upcoming vice-presidential elections, set to be held on September 9.
Making the announcement, BJP national president and Union minister JP Nadda said the party would reach out to the opposition as well. “We will talk to the opposition. We should also get their support so that together we can ensure an unopposed election for the post of vice president,” Nadda stated.
With the announcement, political circles are now abuzz with discussions over whether the NDA will have a smooth sail or if the INDIA bloc will put up a contest. Much will depend on alliance strategies and the numbers each side can gather in the run-up to the election.
